How to tell if a company is a ‘tranny’ and not an ‘asian’ company

Transexual and transgender individuals are more likely to be treated differently than their straight counterparts, according to new research.

Key points:Transexuals are more often subjected to violence and discrimination than their non-transexual counterpartsTraditionally, asian and trans communities have seen a greater acceptance as part of their identitiesThe findings suggest that the lack of understanding for these identities in the workplace may be contributing to discriminationThe report by the Human Rights Commission of Australia (HRCA) found that of the companies surveyed, nearly 80% of trans people were not treated as employees or employees-in-training, or were denied benefits such as maternity leave.

The study found that, as a result, trans people experienced a greater level of discrimination in the workforce.

“As a result of their gender identity, transgender people may be subject to greater levels of discrimination and harassment at work,” HRCA senior researcher, Dr Rebecca Fenton, said.

“The findings show that the failure of some employers to treat transgender employees fairly is having an impact on their well-being.”

The study was commissioned by the HRCA, which has been working to promote equality in Australia’s workplace.

“Discrimination against transgender people is not acceptable in any workplace in Australia,” Dr Fenton said.

The HRCA has also commissioned a study to determine the prevalence of discrimination against transgender Australians.

“Our work is focused on understanding the discrimination faced by transgender people in Australia and how it impacts on their health, wellbeing and social and economic well-beings,” Dr Della Pina said.

Dr Fenton and her team were particularly interested in how the workplace is perceived and experienced by trans people in the form of their workplace.

They wanted to understand how different groups of people in this society feel about their workplace, and how they felt about the perception of the workplace by the wider community.

The researchers also wanted to identify and identify barriers that are commonly encountered by trans and non-trans people working together in the Australian workforce.

The research found that the majority of companies surveyed did not address the impact of transphobia and transphobic behaviour in the organisation, and did not acknowledge that there is a difference in treatment between trans and cisgender people.

“This was especially true for white male and male-dominated companies, with a higher proportion of white male workers not being treated as trans or trans-inclusive,” Dr Pina explained.

“While trans and trans-relevant issues are important to consider, they are not necessarily a barrier to working with others.”

While most companies had policies and practices that would allow employees to use their preferred pronouns, trans women faced more barriers than cisgender women.

“These findings demonstrate that transphobes are more commonly treated as less equal and discriminated against in Australian workplaces than cisgendered people,” Dr Hutton said.

The report’s findings also show that a higher percentage of employers reported that they have a policy or practice that specifically deals with trans and gender diverse people.

The findings also suggest that employers are more reluctant to engage in workplace discussions around gender and transgender issues, including those that might be uncomfortable.

Dr Hutton suggested that a number of factors may contribute to this reluctance.

“For instance, trans and transgender people are more vulnerable to sexual harassment in the public sphere, and they are more aware of their rights than others, so they are less likely to speak out about discrimination,” Dr Sorenson said.
