Thai baby born with a threeway in her back
A Thai baby who has a thong tucked into her back was born with an unusual condition.
The baby, called Baby Girl, has a condition called congenital spondylolysis, in which her spine becomes fused to her spine.
“The condition occurs when a baby’s spine becomes stiff and the baby has a very tight back, making it impossible to move or walk,” the Royal Thai Medical University said.
“Baby Girl’s spine is also quite wide, so she can move her arms a lot.”
Her muscles are also quite weak, so her legs are also weak.
“When she was born, she weighed just two kilos, but now, with surgery, she has grown to 5kg.”
Baby Girl is expected to live for two more months.
The Royal Thai Ministry of Health and Welfare said Baby Girl is now being cared for at a hospital, and the condition is being monitored closely.
“We are still investigating what causes it,” the ministry said in a statement.
“In the meantime, Baby Girl will receive intensive care to make sure her spine is stable and to ensure her back does not become further affected by the condition.”
“Baby girl is still a little bit weak,” the Ministry said.
The Department of Health said the baby is currently in intensive care at the hospital.
The cause of the condition has not been identified.
